The Compassionate Friends NZ
TCF in Whanganui
Background
One of the first groups to start in NZ, the Whanganui group was in recess for a few years and in 2011 recommenced.
We work autonomously and adhere to the principles of The Compassionate Friends Inc. We keep in contact with other NZ groups by way of email and the newsletter. We have contact with over 30 families in the Whanganui Manawatu area. We welcome families outside of Whanganui too.
Each Spring we visit the Children’s Area at the Aramoho Cemetery and place wind chimes and Christmas decorations in the beautiful magnolia tree which shelters the spot. A wooden bench there was donated by our group some years ago. It is a special place of beauty and peace where parents can rest and reflect.
We also visit The Memory Tree planted in 2022 This is in the Baby Loss Area. For details on this event visit our events page.
Coffee, Care and Chat Meetings
We welcome bereaved parents to meet us monthly at a local café The Yellow House for Coffee Care and Chat on an informal level. There is a focus topic but basically we just chat and support one another and surround newcomers with special care and understanding. Click here for our upcoming meeting dates.
Quotes from two great men remind us that we have been made strong and beautiful under hard pressure like a diamond and we can speak of our grief with tears.
The Whanganui Chapter of The Compassionate Friends have been encouraging and strengthening other bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings: weeping with each other for over 10 years.
